Sleeper Trade Calculator: Methodology, Tips, and FAQs
Updated: 2025-10-22
This free Sleeper trade calculator connects to your league and gives you a clean, human read on any deal. Build a trade and you’ll see simple “You” and “Partner” cards with Net after tax as the headline, a center verdict meter that shows who has the edge, and lineup impact (Team Δ)—short for “team delta”—for both sides. Position strength bars stack up QB, RB, WR, and TE across your league, and an optional bench slot tax keeps 2‑for‑1s and 3‑for‑2s honest. You also get a League Analyzer with standings, a power score, team position cards, and an efficiency & luck view—plus one‑click CSV export.
How it works
- Values: Every player has a rest‑of‑season trade value on a 0–100 scale.
- Net after tax: We total what each side receives, then subtract any bench slot tax. That Net is the big number on each card.
- Verdict meter: The center meter shows who’s ahead and by how much, with a fairness buffer that scales to deal size.
- Lineup impact (Team Δ): See how your starting lineup strength changes after the trade, normalized by position across your league.
- Bench slot tax: If one side takes more players, we apply a small, capped deduction based on replacement‑level value.
- Position bars: League‑normalized bars for QB/RB/WR/TE. Toggle “Starters Only,” or include bench at 50% to reflect depth.
- Recommended trades: Get smart 1‑for‑1, 2‑for‑2, and uneven ideas (we avoid same‑position 1‑for‑1s) and load them with one click.
- League Analyzer: Standings with power score, team position mini‑cards, and an efficiency table (Expected Wins, Luck, Lineup Efficiency, Start/Sit Δ, Close games). Export CSV.
Why relative fairness matters
A flat threshold can call a big trade fair and a small swap lopsided. A ~5% tolerance that scales with deal size keeps the verdict consistent and intuitive.
Bench slot tax, in plain English
Two‑for‑one and three‑for‑two trades usually force a cut or reduce flexibility. The bench slot tax estimates that cost with a small per‑slot deduction on the side receiving more players. It’s anchored to the lower end of the value distribution (a proxy for replacement level) and capped so it never overwhelms the deal.
Position strength bars and ranks
Bars are normalized by position across your league, so teams are directly comparable. Use “Starters Only” to see just your lineup, or include bench at 50% to reflect depth. After a mock trade, impact bars show new totals, rank changes, and value deltas for QB, RB, WR, and TE.
What this tool is great at
- Quickly checking if a proposal is close on value for PPR, half‑PPR, or standard.
- Spotting strengths and needs by position to target upgrades.
- Understanding how multi‑player deals affect roster flexibility through the bench slot tax.
- Discovering potential partners with the built‑in recommender and loading ideas into the calculator.
- Explaining a deal to leaguemates with simple, reproducible math and a clear verdict meter.
What it doesn’t try to do
- Model league‑specific scoring quirks beyond the rest‑of‑season baseline.
- Project future schedules or playoff week matchups. Pair it with your favorite schedule tools.
- Replace judgment about injuries, roles, or coaching changes.

FAQs
- Is this a Sleeper trade calculator?
- Yes. It connects to your Sleeper league to show real rosters and owners. We are not affiliated with Sleeper.
- What is “Net after tax”?
- It’s the total value you receive minus any bench slot tax (if you’re taking more players). It’s the cleanest, apples‑to‑apples way to compare sides.
- What does the verdict meter show?
- Who has the edge and by how much, with a fairness buffer that scales to the size of the deal. Near the middle usually means “close enough.”
- What is Team Δ?
- The change in your starting lineup strength after the trade, normalized by position across your league. Positive is good; negative means you’re giving up lineup strength.
- Is this a dynasty trade calculator?
- It uses rest‑of‑season values by default, which fits redraft and keeper. Dynasty managers can still compare positional strength and value deltas. Dynasty‑specific values are not the default source.
- How are Expected Wins and Luck calculated?
- Expected Wins use an “all‑play” model (how often you’d beat every team’s weekly score). Luck is Actual Wins minus Expected Wins.
- Can I export data?
- Yes. In the League Analyzer, export standings (with power score) to CSV in one click.
- Why didn’t my leagues show up?
- If it’s the off‑season, we automatically try last season. Also make sure you’re entering the Sleeper username, not a display name.
- Does it work for superflex?
- Yes. The tool respects your lineup settings. “Starters Only” shows your actual slot counts, and fairness still sums the selected values.
- Are values the same for PPR and standard?
- Rest‑of‑season values are a blended, consensus‑style index meant to travel across common formats. Layer your league scoring and context on top.
- Do I need to log in?
- No. Enter a Sleeper username to load public league data.
